Champagne glasses

Flute, tulip or coupe for champagne, cava and prosecco.

Champagne glasses are best chosen with the wine in mind. A slim flute keeps the bubbles longest, a tulip gives more aroma and a coupe looks festive at a reception. All the glasses here are crystal glass by Spiegelau and Nachtmann.

Champagne flute, tulip or coupe

The champagne flute is slim and tall. The small surface keeps the fizz for a long time, and the bubbles rise in a fine line. That makes the flute practical at a reception, where a glass stays in the hand for longer.

The tulip has a wider bowl that narrows again towards the top. The wine gets more room for aroma, while the opening still holds the bubbles. For a good champagne or a cava with some age, the tulip is a strong choice. A white wine glass works too, see white wine glasses.

The coupe, or champagne saucer, is wide and shallow. The bubbles fade faster, but the glass looks festive and also works for cocktails. More coupes and coupettes are under cocktail glasses.

Champagne glasses by Spiegelau and Nachtmann

At Spiegelau, Authentis, Definition, Hybrid and Salute each have their own champagne glass. Authentis and Festival also have a sparkling wine glass, which works for cava, prosecco and crémant too. If you already have a wine glass from one of these collections, you can complete the table in the same style.

Special glasses has two party champagne glasses, of 16 and 23 cl, in boxes of 6. Per glass they are among the most affordable on this page, handy if you need a lot of glasses at once. The Spumante glass from the same range is intended for Italian spumante such as prosecco.

Vino Grande has a champagne coupe, in boxes of 12, for anyone looking for the classic coupe.

From Nachtmann there are the champagne glass from Noblesse, in boxes of 4, and the one from Palais, in boxes of 6. Noblesse is the smallest pack on this page: handy for a set at home or as a gift.

Glasses for cava, prosecco and crémant

Prosecco is fresh and fruity, and is drunk young. A flute or the Spumante glass keeps the bubbles longer and the wine cool. Cava and crémant are made like champagne, with a second fermentation in the bottle. The longer such a wine has aged, the more a tulip or a white wine glass is worth it.

Serve sparkling wine chilled, at around 6 to 8°C, and tilt the glass as you pour. It foams less and more bubbles stay in the wine. Fill a flute to about two thirds.

How many champagne glasses, and how to order

For a reception, allow more glasses than guests: people who put their glass down often take a new one. For a dinner one glass per cover is enough, plus the glasses in the dishwasher and a reserve for breakage.

The price is per glass, including 21% VAT. You order by the box: 4 for Noblesse, 6 for Palais, Definition and Special glasses, 12 for the other collections. The box price is the price per glass times that number. Red and white wine glasses from the same collections are under wine glasses.

Spiegelau makes its glasses dishwasher safe. Stand a flute upright in the top rack or in a glass rack. Rinse well and use rinse aid: a trace of detergent or a greasy film dampens the bubbles. Dry with a lint-free cloth.

For hospitality businesses there is a separate professional webshop. You see your prices and terms after signing in. Would you like to hold a flute and a tulip first? Book an appointment at the showroom.

Frequently asked questions

Flute or coupe: which is better for champagne?

For the bubbles, the flute: the slim glass holds the fizz longest. A coupe looks festive, but the bubbles fade faster in it. If the aroma matters most to you, choose a tulip.

Which glass should I use for prosecco?

A flute or the Spumante glass from the Spiegelau Special glasses. Prosecco is fresh and young, and stays cool and lively in a slim glass.

Can champagne go in a wine glass?

Yes. A good champagne gives more aroma in a white wine glass than in a slim flute. The bubbles do fade a little faster.

How many champagne glasses come in a box?

4, 6 or 12, depending on the collection. The price you see is per glass including VAT.

Can champagne glasses go in the dishwasher?

Yes, Spiegelau describes its glasses as dishwasher safe. For Nachtmann, check the product information. Rinse well, because traces of detergent make the bubbles fade faster.
