Little pans that go to the table

Small pans and saucepans by Playground for serving: at the table, at the bar or on the buffet.

SCROLL DOWN

Serving in the pan

A portion of prawns, a dip or a dessert in its own little pan stands out on a full table. For tapas, bar snacks or a buffet of small portions, it works better than yet another plate.

Playground's Spotlights collection includes a small oval pan of 18.5 x 13.5 cm, a rectangular pan of 14.5 x 9.5 cm and a round saucepan 15 cm long. Check each product to see whether it can go on the hob or in the oven.

At home, put them on the table for drinks or a tapas evening. Playground also makes porcelain, in 21 collections, so pan and plate match.

Pots and pans for serving

This page is not about the stove, but about the table. The pots and pans here are serving pieces: small pans, saucepans, serving casseroles and little terracotta pots from Playground's Spotlights collection, for serving a portion at the table, at the bar or on the buffet.

A portion of prawns, a small stew or a dessert in its own little pan looks like a dish in its own right, not one more plate among the rest. For tapas, sharing dishes and small portions, it is a simple way to give a menu a style of its own.

The range: sizes and packs

All pieces come from Playground's Spotlights collection. They are sold per pack; the number per pack is listed below and with each product.

Whether a piece can go on the hob, in the oven or in the dishwasher differs per product. Check the product information before you use a piece in the kitchen.

Which pan for which dish

Start from the portion you serve, not from the pan:

  • Tapas and bar snacks. The small rectangular pan (14.5 x 9.5 cm) and the 15 cm round saucepan hold a portion for one or two people.
  • Sauces and dips. The smallest saucepan (12 cm long, 3 cm high) and the 7.8 cm round dish suit a sauce, a dip or a topping next to the main dish.
  • A sharing dish. The 18.5 x 13.5 cm oval pan and the pans with a wooden trivet, up to 22.5 x 16 cm, go in the middle of the table. The trivet comes with it.
  • Desserts and little pots. The serving casserole with lid (9.5 cm) and the terracotta pots of 6.7 and 10 cm work for a mousse, a rillette or a portion of olives.

Serving in the pan in practice

If you serve in small pans, you need more than the number of covers. Count per dish: the portions going out at the same time, plus what is in the wash, plus a reserve.

Give the pans a fixed place in the kitchen and at the pass. Small pieces take up little room but go missing easily among everything else. A dedicated tub or rack keeps the mise en place clear.

Mind the weight when you carry a tray with several pans. The pans with a wooden trivet weigh 715 to 1193 grams each, the small oval pan 240 grams and the smallest saucepan 75 grams.

Care and storage

Rinse off food before the pans go into the sink or the dishwasher, if the product allows it. Do not leave the wooden trivets standing in water: clean wood by hand and let it dry upright. Unglazed terracotta absorbs moisture, so let the pots dry thoroughly before putting them away. Do not stack small pans too high, so rims and handles stay intact.

Pan, plate and board that match

Besides these pans, Playground makes 21 porcelain collections and wooden serving boards. Choosing pan, plate and board from the same brand gives a table that works without everything being the same. See our hospitality tableware and serving platters.

On a buffet of small portions, the pans sit well next to platters from other brands. Read more under buffet equipment.

Cooking for guests at home

These pans work at home too: a tapas evening, drinks with friends, fries in their own little saucepan. Private customers order in the webshop with prices including 21% VAT. The whole brand is in the Playground collection in the webshop.
