Which whisky glass suits how you drink

Start with how you serve whisky. Neat or with a splash of water, a 23.5 cl tumbler is enough, such as the small Bossa Nova by Nachtmann. With ice cubes, choose 33 to 34.5 cl. Highland, Punk, Shu Fa and Sculpture come in that size, so there is room for ice.

A tumbler has a thick base, stands firmly and sits well in the hand. It also works for an old fashioned or a negroni on ice. If you mainly taste whisky, look at the opening. The narrower the rim, the more aroma stays at the nose. For that, a stemmed digestif glass is better suited than a wide tumbler.

Spiegelau and Nachtmann whisky glasses side by side

Nachtmann works with relief in the glass. Bossa Nova, Highland, Punk, Shu Fa and Sculpture each have their own pattern, which stands out on the table and gives grip. Noblesse has a liqueur and a shot glass alongside the whisky tumbler, so the drinks cabinet comes from one line. Palais has a whisky glass alongside its wine and champagne glasses.

The tumblers by Spiegelau are simple in shape. Club, Linear, Soiree and Lounge have a whisky glass or an old fashioned glass. Perfect Serve has a D.O.F. glass, a double old fashioned with room for a large ice cube. Digestif glasses are in Authentis, Definition, Vino Grande and Willsberger Anniversary.

Cognac glasses, shot glasses and the rest of the drinks cabinet

A cognac glass has a rounded bowl that narrows towards the top. You cup it in your palm, so the cognac warms slightly and the aroma gathers in the glass. Spiegelau has a cognac glass in Vino Grande and a brandy glass in Soiree.

A shot glass is small, with a thick base that can take a knock on the bar. You will find one in Classic bar, Perfect Serve and Vino Grande by Spiegelau, and in Noblesse by Nachtmann. The Noblesse liqueur glass is for a liqueur or a jenever after dinner.

Whisky also pours nicely from a decanter: under decanters and carafes you will find the Perfect Serve whisky decanter and the Bossa Nova decanter, which matches the glasses of the same name. If you drink whisky with soda or ginger ale, look at the highball glasses.

Care, dishwasher and quantities

Spiegelau describes its glasses as dishwasher safe. Place them apart in the rack, use rinse aid against limescale marks and dry with a lint-free cloth. With Nachtmann relief glass, limescale settles in the grooves more easily, so a dry cloth helps even more. The care instructions for each glass are on the product sheet.

Do not fill a glass that is still warm from the dishwasher with ice straight away. The large temperature difference can crack the glass.

Nachtmann sells most whisky glasses in boxes of 4 or 6, a good size for a set at home or a gift. Spiegelau comes in boxes of 12, the Definition digestif glass in boxes of 6. For a bar, also count the glasses in the dishwasher and a reserve for breakage. For hospitality businesses there is a separate professional webshop. You see your prices and terms after signing in.

Frequently asked questions

What size whisky glass do I need?

For whisky without ice, 23.5 cl is enough. With ice, choose 33 to 34.5 cl, such as the Highland, Punk or Sculpture tumblers by Nachtmann.

What is the difference between a tumbler and a cognac glass?

A tumbler is low and wide, with a thick base, for whisky on ice or a cocktail. A cognac glass has a rounded bowl that narrows towards the top, so the aroma stays in the glass. Spiegelau has one in Vino Grande.

What does D.O.F. mean on Perfect Serve?

Double old fashioned: a wide tumbler that holds more than a standard old fashioned glass. A large ice cube fits in it, with room for whisky or a cocktail.

Do I pay per glass or per box?

You order by the box of 4, 6 or 12, depending on the glass. The price on the site is per glass, incl. 21% VAT. So the box costs the price per glass times the number of glasses in it.

Can whisky glasses go in the dishwasher?

Yes, for Spiegelau: the brand describes its glasses as dishwasher safe. For Nachtmann, the care instructions are on the product sheet. Rinse aid and a lint-free cloth keep the glass clear.

How much is shipping?

In Belgium €8 incl. VAT, free from €100 incl. VAT. To the Netherlands and Luxembourg €25 incl. VAT, free from €1,000 incl. VAT.

Can I hold the glasses first?

Yes. In the showroom at Doenaertstraat 16, 8510 Marke (Kortrijk) you can pick up the tumblers, by appointment. You will notice how heavy a Nachtmann with relief feels next to a simple Spiegelau.
